farther, across the dark living room
of someone’s house with a slanted roof
which caved down where you stood
near a white wall talking to a darkened shadow
looking at me, though, smiling and on the cusp
of laughter separated by shapeless, quiet bodies

you cannot approach me
i retrieve you in every blink
shy about my father still

his smile, saying i’ve got it together
and i’m never leaving
